Obituary for Michael George "Mike" Mancini
Michael George Mancini (Mike), 73, of Eden Prairie, MN was taken home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 4, 2019. He died peacefully, surrounded by his family at the University of Minnesota Medical Center.
Mike was born in Stannington, England on May 10, 1946 and came to the US one year later with his mother to join his father. What should have been a five day voyage became a three week adventure of avoiding the icebergs and rough seas.
Mike is preceded in death by his father, George Mancini and his mother, Irene Moffat Mancini. He is survived by one brother, David Mancini, two sister-in-laws, Heather Mancini and Cozette Mobelini, one brother-in-law, Don Lee Mobelini, his devoted wife, Marcia Lykins Mancini, two sons, Christopher James and Marcus George, one daughter, Ashley Clare Marana, one son-in-law, Shea Marana, one daughter-in-law Pamela Sue Mancini, and one daughter-in-law to-be, Kelly Tobin, four precious grandchildren, Kaye Isabella (15) and Marcus George Mancini II (12), Giada Olivia (8) and Emma Sophia Marana (5), and one granddaughter to-be, Emma Grace Giancristoforo (14), three nieces, Chelsea Lynn Mancini, Megan Elizabeth Mancini, Belinda Jane Mobelini, and one nephew Donald Lee Mobelini.
Mike grew up in Plainfield, NJ. He was a graduate of Plainfield High School and Salem University where he was a member and president of the “Fraternal Order of Yanks” from which stemmed many long and treasured friendships.
After college and marriage to the love of his life Mike began a career of over 30 years with the Equitable Life Insurance Society, now AXA. From 1973-1991 Mike became a district sales manager in the Fitzpatrick Agency in Fairfield and West Orange, NJ. At this time Mike and his family made their home in Verona and on Long Beach Island, NJ. Active in the community, Mike was a member and a president of the Jaycees and Lions Club, a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Verona, coach to various baseball, basketball and girls softball teams, as well as an active participant on men’s recreational basketball and softball teams.
In 1991 his career took Mike and his family to St. Paul and Minneapolis to take the position of Agency Manager in Minnesota. It was at this time through early 2000 Mike began to experience some serious health issues requiring more of his time to be focused on his health, family and his other passion… GOLF! As always he remained a leader and great example of generosity, ethics, fairness, and a loving spirit to his family, friends, and everyone who came across his path.
Mike was a man of courage and character. His many hospitalizations were surely a trial but with each one, as the years have gone by, he seemed to grow in patience and humility, knowing that he was not in charge. His creator was holding the bag, selecting the club and lining up the shots.
In lieu of floral memorials the family would ask that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.
