Obituary for Michael Russell "Mike" Tolliver

On April 12, 2020, Michael Tolliver (67) of Minnetonka, passed away surrounded by his loving family after a battle with cancer. He was born July 27, 1952 in Charles City, Iowa; son of Russell and Margaret (Merfeld) Tolliver. He grew up on a small farm where dedication and hard work were required every day. His Eagle Scout qualities, honor & trustworthy, were woven into his being. Music touched his soul – from State of Iowa First Tenor in 1969 - to rock band singer in high school - to enjoying favorite albums from his extensive vinyl collection – to attending many memorable concerts and music events throughout his life. After college, Mike moved to Minneapolis where he met and married his soul-mate LuAnn (Breitung) Tolliver on 7-8-78 in Pepin, WI. Together they raised three sons: Brandon, Cory and Spencer. Mike was a dedicated husband, father and the number one fan/supporter of his sons in all their events, activities and adventures.
Mike worked as an independent carpet installer for 43 years and was known and respected by many fellow tradesmen. He retired in 2018 to enjoy road trips and spend more time with family. He enjoyed playing golf and was proud of his Hole-in-One on June 26, 2005. Mike was quick witted, had a great sense of humor and made lasting impressions on those whose lives he touched. He was tough as nails - yet kind, caring and always ready to help others in need.
Mike is survived by his wife of 41 years, LuAnn Tolliver; three sons, Brandon Tolliver, Cory Tolliver, Spencer Tolliver; father, Russell Tolliver; siblings, Diane (Steve) Pelhan, Janet (Randy) Stangl, Judy (Vernon) King; nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Tolliver.
